To achieve their goal, they need to accelerate elementary particles inside circular or linear accelerators by using radio frequency.
For these means, powers go from a few watts to thousands of kilowatts.
In this specific sector, tube technology is still widely used, either tetrode, IOT or klystron technology.
In the last years those research centres which are recognised worldwide as the most “illuminated” started to move to solid state even for very high power amplifiers (> 1MW).
This is possible thanks to the huge improvements made by the silicon industry in terms of single chip power capabilities and to companies like ours that are capable to get thousands of them and make them work at unison to provide a level of reliability, redundancy and safety a tube will never be able to guarantee.
